Degree in Philosophy from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1985) and PhD in Philosophy in the UPV/EHU (1992) with extraordinary award. He is a tenured researcher in the UPV/EHU since 2011. Teacher of Philosophy in high school in leave of absence (civil servant since 1990), he has worked 7 years as such (1986-1989 & 1998-2001). He has got predoctoral (1989-1994) and postdoctoral grants (1994-1997) and for 2 years has been visiting research fellow in Binghamton University, NY (USA). Chosen at its 1st call, he rejoined the UPV/EHU as a Ramón y Cajal researcher (2001-2006) and continued hired as researcher until 2011.
He is part of the IAS Research group in Philosophy of Biology (type A group of the Basque research system) and has participated in 20 funded research projects since 1993, being P.I. in 3 of them. He has published 59 journal papers and book chapters and has participated in many international conferences. He has directed 4 PhD Diss. and has been recognized 4 six-year terms by CNAI. In 1997 he got the 3rd prize in the CAF-Elhuyar popular science contest.
He is the Director of the Logic & Philosophy of Science Dept. since 2019 and has been its Academic secretary since 2007. He is the coordinator of the international interuniversity master in “Philosophy, Science & Values” (UPV/EHU-UNAM) and member of the Research, Development and Innovation Committee (UPV/EHU).
He has been council member in Alkiza 2 terms (2003-2011) and mayor 2 more (2011-2019).
