Biologist Cristian E. Jaime defended his doctoral thesis in Biological Sciences (National University of Córdoba). The work, entitled "Interaction between Diet, Microbiota, and Immune Regulation in the Development of the Intestinal Barrier in Birds (Coturnix coturnix) and Mammals (Mus musculus)," was supervised by Nicolas Nazar, a Researcher at the Microfluidics Cluster UPV/EHU, and Professor Silvia Correa (Center for Research in Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology, CONICET). The thesis was evaluated by renowned researchers in the field, including Prof. P. Romagnoli (IUCBC-CONICET), Prof. F. Chirdo (University of Buenos Aires), and Prof. A. Ropolo (Mercedes and Martín Ferreyra Institute).

This thesis has employed cell culture methodologies, organoids, histology, miRNA technology, and in vivo studies to deepen our understanding of the mechanisms that evolution has found for the configuration of specialized systems like the intestinal barrier in highly divergent groups such as birds and mammals. Different developmental strategies have been revealed, but in light of the results, they have very interesting commonalities. Much new knowledge has been generated, and new doors are open to continue answering key questions.

The thesis and defense received the highest grade of OUTSTANDING - Summa cum laude.

Congratulations to the new PhD and congratulations to his supervisors!
