Biography
Olatz Lucas Zubiaurre graduated in Primary Education with a minor in Foreign Language at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU. She later took a Master's degree in Multilingualism and Education at the same university. She also studied Music Education at the UNIR. She then did a second Master's degree at the University of Cadiz in Evaluation and Research in Learning Organisations and Contexts. She has worked in Primary Education, mainly as an English teacher. She has worked for one year as a contracted researcher in the project Pedagogical Translanguaging in the Curriculum (PeTransCur) funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, in the DREAM Research Group. She is currently working as a pre-doctoral researcher, after obtaining a contract in the call for research trainees of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 2022. The thesis she is working on is entitled ‘The development of reading competence in the science areas of Secondary Education: development of metalinguistic awareness and teachers’ beliefs’ and it is supervised by Professor Juan Etxeberria and Associate Professor Oihana Leonet. In her thesis, she studies the influence of academic language development and metalinguistic awareness on reading comprehension, as well as secondary school teachers' beliefs about language teaching. Her main interests are language learning and teaching processes, multilingual education, teachers' beliefs and translanguaging.
