Full Professor of Audiovisual Communication. Since 1992 he has taught at the UPV/EHU and has directed the Doctoral Programs developed by the Audiovisual Communication and Advertising department from the 1995/97 to the 2008/10 biennium. With regard to postgraduate teaching, he teaches the Sociosemiotica subject in the University Master's Degree in Social Communication at the UPV/EHU. For all these reasons, it has recognized 5 favorable evaluations of its teaching activity or five-year periods.
His research activity, for which the CNEAI has recognized him 4 sections or six-year research periods, is the result of the encounter between a work and/or thought tool (structural semiotics) and an object (cinema and / or visual text) . His works and publications reflect on the fundamentals of interpretation (especially images) and he has carried out the analysis of the most diverse (audio) visual texts, with special attention to the films that make up the Spanish cinematographic heritage whose historiography has dedicated some of his most relevant contributions.
He was director of the MASTER in Social Communication at the UPV / EHU and is currently Principal Investigator (IP) of Contemporary Audiovisual Mutations (MAC), Consolidated Research Group of the Basque Government
