Associate Professor of International Relations at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in Bilbao, Spain, since 2000, and Scientific Director of the International Institute for the Sociology of Law, Onati, Spain (2018-2020). His research is focused on the transformations of diplomacy, international regimes and global law-making, norms contestation, post-development, and aesthetics and politics. He is the author of Plural Diplomacies: Normative Predicaments and Functional Imperatives (Leiden: Brill 2013), and co-author with Costas M. Constantinou and Fiona McConnell of Transprofessional Diplomacy (Leiden: Brill 2017), and has published close to one hundred books chapters and articles. He has been a visiting researcher at Ohio State University (1992), University Laval (2002), and University of Idaho (2004). Basque Visiting Fellow, at St. Antony's College, University of Oxford (2011-2012), and Visiting Professor of Master and Doctorate at the Institutes of Political Studies of Bordeaux (2004) and Paris (2017), and offered guest lectures at various universities in Chile, Colombia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, UK, USA, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Peru, Portugal, Romania; and promoted a number of MOA with various UN agencies (UNDP, UNEP, UN-Women, FAO), and collaborated with the Council Europe. Editorial Board member of The Hague Journal of Diplomacy, and Diplomatica: Journal of Diplomacy and Society, and Afers Internacionals/CIDOB.
