Biography

Oihana Leonet is the Vice Dean of Postgraduate and Innovation and an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Sciences at the Faculty of Education, Philosophy and Anthropology of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She holds a BA in Primary Education from UPV/EHU and a BA in Psychopedagogy from Mondragon Unibertsitatea (MU). She obtained her MA European Master on Multilingualism and Education from UPV/EHU. She received a scholarship to complete her dissertation at UPV/EHU, where she obtained her Ph.D. with honours in 2018. She is currently the Principal Investigator (PI) of the internationally renowned research group "Donostia Research group on Education and Multilingualism" (DREAM), where she has been conducting research in the field of multilingualism and education since 2014.

Her research focuses on language teaching in multilingual contexts. She investigates the development of students' metalinguistic awareness using multilingual pedagogical approaches such as translanguaging, and the impact of these pedagogies on the use of minority languages. She has actively participated in numerous international conferences in the field of education, bi/multilingualism and language teaching, and has published her work in high-impact international journals and book chapters. She has also been involved in four European projects, two national projects and nine regional projects, of which she has been the project leader. She has also obtained six contracts with the Basque Department of Education for the development of research projects related to multilingualism and social inclusion. She has carried out international research at the University of Groningen (Netherlands), the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center (USA) and the IKER Research Centre for Basque Language and Texts, the University of Bordeaux Montaigne and the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour (UPPA).

She also collaborates with the State Research Agency in the evaluation of research projects, has reviewed research articles for international journals and participates in scientific committees of various international congresses. She has extensive experience in organising scientific congresses and seminars.
