Research and Personal Trainining Plan

Training activities must be included in the Research Plan and personal training plan (available on the forms section of the website), which must be submitted before the end of the first year from the date of enrollment, and must be updated at least once a year.

The Research and Personal Training Plan (RPTP) is the document submitted at the start of the PhD programme, setting out the academic framework for the thesis and the training activities to be undertaken by the PhD student.

This procedure applies only to students enrolled from the 2024/25 academic year onwards.

Information to be included by students:

  • Research Plan: The definition of the project, the objectives to be achieved, the methodology, the timetable and the resources.
  • Personal Training Plan: specific activities, courses, seminars or conferences that the student will undertake to develop their research skills.

Updating: this is a living document that must be reviewed and updated at least once a year.

Assessment:

  • The updated RPTP will be used by your thesis supervisor to assess the progress of your doctoral work.
  • You must also comply with any additional guidelines set by the academic committee of your doctoral programme, where applicable.
  • Please consult the assessment process, the assessment calendar  and the official templates for the forms available on the EHU’s Doctoral Studies website.

Deadlines:

  • Deadline for submitting the first version of the RPTP: before the end of your first year of enrolment on the doctoral programme.
  • Deadline for submitting the updated RPTP for the annual assessment: by 6 September 2026.

To obtain a positive assessment from your thesis supervisor and the academic committee of your doctoral programme during the annual assessment, you must submit your updated RPTP to the GAUR platform (in Spanish and Basque) (you can download the official form here, available in English).
