The group's research laboratories are located in the Faculty of Pharmacy and in the nearby Lascaray Research Center, in the Alava Campus of the University of the Basque Country/EHU in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Lactiker group has the appropriate resources to carry on a wide variety of analytical techniques on food products and other biological samples. The techniques and equipment available on our labs includes high-resolution instrumental techniques, biochemistry and molecular biology, and sensorial analysis among others. The sensory analysis laboratory (LASEHU) is accredited for quality control of Protected Denomination of Origin Idiazabal and other food products.
Laboratories equipped for instrumental analysis have GC-MS, and FID high resolution chromatographs and GC-MS coupled to olfactometry, HPLC chromatographs with fluorescence, diode array, and light-scattering detectors; electrophoresis equipments, UV/VIS spectrophotometers and near-infrared spectroscopy.
The biochemistry laboratory has preparative ultra and super centrifuges and standard equipment for molecular techniques (PCR). The sensory analysis laboratory (LASEHU) has two computerized tasting rooms, meeting rooms and fully-equipped kitchen to develop sensorial analysis.
Finally, the research group has a cheesemaking pilot plant for small-scale cheese-production (60-L vats) as well as vacuum and modified atmosphere packaging machines.
