Description:
This project aims to develop academic language, focusing on Basque in the D Model of Compulsory Secondary Education. The project is based on the idea that an intervention based on improving academic language proficiency in Basque will have a positive impact not only on Basque language outcomes but also on performance in other academic subjects, while also providing benefits in other curricular languages. The project integrates two complementary approaches:
a) Studies and research that have identified specific academic language competencies; that is, the aspects of language that students need to develop in order to work with oral and written texts, such as understanding complex language structures or the logical connections between ideas.
b) The pedagogy of translanguaging, which requires structuring and coordinating activities across curricular languages, allowing students to draw on their linguistic resources and, ultimately, to develop multilingual competence.
