Investiture Ceremony for all the new Doctors (2026)

Investiture Ceremony for all the new Doctors

On 29th May 2026 the EHU will hold an Investiture Ceremony for all the new Doctors who defended their theses in 2025. The Vice-chancellor of the University of the Basque Country, Joxerramon Bengoetxea Caballero, will lead the ceremony, which will start at 5 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the University of the Basque Country, Leioa, and is expected to last for at least three hours.

The investiture Ceremony involves the academic authorities placing a doctoral cap on the heads of the new doctors who have successfully defended their doctoral theses in 2025. It is a solemn university ceremony in which the university publicly recognises those who have been awarded a doctorate, the highest academic degree.

You can watch the video highlights of the 2025 ceremony here.

The new doctors who defended their theses in 2025 and who wish to attend the Investiture Ceremony must register using the following form, which will be available up to, and including, 30 April 2026. No applications will be accepted after this date.

REGISTRATION FORM (until 30 April; registration closed)

The Doctoral School will provide all the new doctors with an academic gown on the day of the investiture ceremony. For this reason, all attendees must be punctual and arrive at the Aula Magna at 3:45 p.m., where they will be given further instructions by the organisers.

The organisation will give the new doctors their guest invitation once they have put on their academic gown. The accompanying guest will be required to show this invitation when entering the auditorium. The organisation will contact the new doctors to give the appropriate indications via e-mail.

A photographer will cover the entire event, taking both individual and group photographs.
