Thesis co-supervision by university lecturers outside the doctoral programme

Thesis co-supervision by university lecturers outside the doctoral programme

Lecturers not affiliated with the programme may request co-supervision by sending the corresponding form to the Academic Commission of the doctoral programme in question.

Providing the lecturer presents an accredited six-year research period, only the approval of the Academic Commission of the doctoral programme is required. The Agreement reached by this Commission, approving the co-supervision, will be communicated to the administrative secretary of the Doctorate School assigned to the programme, so that they can update the information on the GAUR platform.

In the event of the lecturer not presenting an accredited six-year research period, they must present, alongside the co-supervision request form, 5 relevant contributions, using the corresponding templates provided for this purpose. For each contribution, applicants must submit the corresponding quality indexes in accordance with the specific criteria approved by the Resolution issued by the National Assessment Committee for Research Activities (CNEAI) for each scientific field, and which are in effect at the time of the assessment.

Once the co-supervision has been approved with the 5 relevant contributions, the Academic Commission must send a request to the Doctorate School through the doctoral programme’s secretariat, providing the following documents:

  • The Agreement of the Academic Commission approving the co-supervision.
  • The 5 relevant contributions, for recognition by the Postgraduate Commission.
  • The co-supervision request submitted by the lecturer not affiliated with the programme, that was sent previously to the Academic Commission.

Lecturers who were positively assessed by the Postgraduate Commission after 5 March 2020  and who request permission to co-supervise new doctoral theses within the same knowledge area will not need to be assessed once again by the Postgraduate Commission, and will not have to provide 5 relevant contributions.
