ABSTRACT: This paper presents a group of cognitive computational experiences carried out in classrooms of the University of the Basque Country. The experiences were designed to guarantee that the students would learn the content of a set of topics in the areas of education and engineering by using the computational capabilities already present in the human brain. These capabilities are, in general, different from those used in traditional teaching and learning environments. The human brain develops large sets of cognitive processes to manipulate information without any formal education. We call these processes Evolutionary Cognitive Processes. The methodology is based on using primarily the brain’s system1 and on offering students a computational model for solving problems through isomorphic tasks. Four experiences were carried out with students of the degree courses in Primary Education, and master’s degree in Engineering of Control, Automation and Robotics. The methodology of the experiences is based on the creation and use of a Virtual Machine. The first data indicate good results for students. The paper shares the results and conclusions of these experiences with the academic community in the area of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
