THE DOKe
The Doctoral School (or DOKe) of the University of the Basque Country is the centre to which all doctoral students at the EHU are affiliated. The DOKe is one of the 20 centres (i.e. faculties and schools) belonging to the EHU. Therefore, it is important to note that although doctoral students use the facilities of a specific faculty or institution, they are not students of that faculty, but of the DOKe.
The DOKe's main headquarters are on the Bizkaia campus in Leioa, in the Central Library building, but the centre also has staff and customer service on the Gipuzkoa and Araba campuses: specifically, in the Ignacio María Barriola lecture hall in Donostia, San Sebastian, and in the Micaela Portilla research centre in Vitoria Gasteiz.
There are 16 people working at the Doctoral School: 12 PTGAS staff (technical, management, administrative and service staff) and 5 PDI staff (teaching and research staff). We have a management team of 6 people, 5 of whom are PDI staff and the head of administration. We also have a Student Council, which is the body through which we communicate with our doctoral students.
OUR WEBSITES
Our websites are the main means of communication with students and teaching staff, and you can find all the information you need about the PhD programme there.
Firstly, there are the websites for each of the PhD programmes. They include specific information about each programme, including
the list of teaching staff who supervise theses, the programme's lines of research, specific training, etc.
Secondly, there are two pages you should consult for doctoral procedures and formalities: the DOKe website and the Doctoral Studies website. Here you will find information such as the DOKe annual calendar (also available in printable PDF format), all contact details, and forms and procedures for the various doctoral formalities.
Please, we urge you NOT to use PRINTED forms or documents found outside our website (which you may have on egelapi platforms or other spaces used by your doctoral programme or thesis supervisors), as they may be out of date. ALWAYS DOWNLOAD DOCUMENTS DIRECTLY from the DOKe website or the GREEN doctoral website.
POSTGRADUATE SERVICE
It is important to note that the doctoral programme is not managed exclusively by DOKe. The postgraduate service, located in Lecture Hall II on the Leioa campus, handles various procedures such as thesis submission. Please note that when you write to doctorado@ehu.eus, you are writing to the postgraduate service and not to the Doctoral School.
In addition, for questions that are not related to the doctoral programme, but rather to logistical aspects such as finding accommodation, visa anagement, insurance or medical services, you can contact the Welcome Centre of the University of the Basque Country, which is based on the Bizkaia, Araba and Gipuzkoa campuses.
YOUR DEPARTMENT
Although doctoral students are not affiliated with a faculty, they are assigned to a department, which will be registered in their GAUR platform profile. The department to which the thesis supervisor is affiliated will be the place where the thesis is registered and the members of the examination board are appointed.
