She obtained her degree in Chemical Sciences (2005) and Ph.D. (2008) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Salamanca. Her doctoral project was completed at the National Institutes of Health (NIH, USA). In 2009 she moved to Spain, where her research work has been recognized with the Young Researcher Award of the Spanish Biophysical Society in 2013 and the UNESCO-Loreal for Women in Science scholarship in 2016.



Currently, she is the leader of the Cellular Membrane Remodeling Mechanisms Lab at the Biofisika Institute (CSIC, UPV / EHU). She has co-directed two doctoral theses and is currently the director / co-director of another three. She has been invited to annual meetings of the Biophysical Societies of the USA and Spain and has published in journals with a high impact index, such as Nature and Science. Her research lines focus on the fission of cellular membranes during endocytosis and mitochondrial division.
