I am an adjunct professor at the Department of Linguistics and Basque Studies at the University of the Basque Country. My main interest lies in the morphosyntax of the world's languages both in historical-diachronic and typological-comparative perspective. I believe that, so long as we don't have a better understanding of the structure of languages (an aim we are currently far away from achieving), we should theorize as little as possible when doing linguistics. Moreover, my conviction is that the form of language is primarily conditioned by external factors, particularly culture and language use. Accordingly, my research is focused within funcionalist linguistics, within which I am especially fond of Basic Linguistic Theory and Construction Grammar. So far I have mostly done research on Basque and Indo-European languages, focusing on topics such as negation, reflexive markers, coordination and subordination, with publications in journals like Diachronica, Folia Linguistica, Linguistic Typology, Studies in Language, Journal of Historical Linguistics and Journal of Language Contact. Other topics I am interested in include language contact and contact-induced language change, the study of morphosyntactic properties of proper names and the analysis and edition of old texts. Recently I have published a monographic edition of XVIII-XIX. century letters written in Goizueta Basque.
