Research: Acinetobacter baumannii, new targets to control antibiotic resistance and persistance in the hospital environment. Acinetobacter baumannii is a Gram-negative bacteria causing serious hospital-acquired infections that has become a worldwide threat as its resistance to antibiotics has dramatically risen. One of the main reasons is the international dissemination of multiresistant clones containing multiple antibiotic resistance and virulence genes located on plasmids. Resistance to antibiotics threatens the achievement of several of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals of the Agensa 2030. We are one of the research groups of the Environmental Antibiotic Resistance Joint Research Laboratory taking actions under a One Health concept.

Collaborations: Institute for Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Hygiene, Germany; IDIVAL, Spain; Universidad Mayor de San Simón, Bolivia; Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, Egypt; University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom.
