Dr. Oihane Abarrategi, got her Bachelor on Electronics in 1999 and her Master on Telecommunication in 2001 from the University of Deusto. After working for DeTeLine (Germany), T-systems Austria and Simtec Ingeniería she joined the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) during the academic year of 2004/05 as a lecturer at the Mining and Civil Works Faculty. In 2012, she got her PhD in Industrial Engineering from the UPV/EHU with Cum Laude qualification and an International Mention, with research stays at Imperial College (London, UK) and ISET (Kassel, Germany). She speaks Basque, Spanish, English and German.



She has been the Electrical Engineering Department section coordinator (2007-13), Basque Language Coordinator (2008-13) and member of several comittees at the Mining and Civil Works Faculty. She has directed over 20 End of Degree Projects and tutored over 30 student's working practices. She is a member of the GISEL research group and has participated in over 10 research projects and has 40 contributions (journals and congresses), 2 patents and several difussion articles for mainstream magazines and radio. Her research interests are: Distributed Generation, Smart Grids, AI, metaheuristics and HVDC.





She is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of Bilbao at the Department of Electrical Engineering and lectures at different degrees and at the Master on Integration of Renewable Energy Sources and Erasmus Mundus Master REM
