Graduated in Biology (1989); Doctor degree in 1997 (Doctoral special prize)

Tenure lecturer of Physiology at the UPV/EHU since 1989. I teach Animal Physiology in the degrees of Biology, Biothecnology and Biochemistry. I also teach the course named Physiological energetics of marine organisms which is offered in two Official Masters: “Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Marine Environment and Resources” and “Environmental Contamination and Toxicology”.

I was the Head of my department (2010-2013), then I was appointed to be Director of Scientific Policy of the Basque Government (2013-2015), and currently I am the Director for Research Dissemination at the UPV/EHU.

My research interest is focused on how exogenous (trophic environment, temperature, pollution) and endogenous (genetic-transcriptomic) factors affect the physiological performance, energy balance, growth and reproduction of marine bivalves.I am the Main researcher of the Consolidated Research Group Physiological energetics of marine organisms. More than 30 scientific publications one book, one book chapter (>80% in Q1), and over 200 contributions at nat and int conferences, and participation in more than 20 research projects.
