Enrique Gómez-Bengoa (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1966) completed the B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1989 and his PhD in the Department of Organic Chemistry at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, under the direction of Prof. Antonio M. Echavarren. He carried out two post-doctoral stays, at the University of Göttingen in Germany (1995) under the supervision of Prof. Ullrich Groth, and at Boston College (Massachusetts, 1996/97), working in the laboratories of Prof. Amir Hoveyda. During these years, he worked in experimental synthetic organic chemistry, mostly related to organometallic catalysis. He returned to the University of the Basque Country in Donostia-San Sebastián in 1998 as an Assistant Professor, promoting to Associate Professor in 2008.

He is currently specialized in theoretical organic chemistry, having published 120 articles on the mechanistic elucidation of different types of organic reactions. Prof. Gómez-Bengoa has succeeded in setting up and maintaining a large number of fruitful collaborations with academic and industrial experimental groups around Europe, working in the fields of organocatalysis, radical chemistry and organometallic chemistry.
